This French Green Clay Detox Mask is recommended for normal, combination and oily skins as a purifying “once-a-week” DIY beauty treatment. It will remove impurities, tighten your pores and stimulate your skin, leaving it firm and clean. It’s also great to fight against acne as it reduces inflammation while cleansing the pores. I usually apply the mask after a good relaxing bath, once the heat of the water has relaxed my skin 🙂

About the ingredients

French Green Clay: French green clay is a type of mineral clays valued for its highly absorbent, purifying and calming properties. Rich in beneficial minerals such as: magnesium, silica, and calcium, the clay works by adsorbing impurities, chemicals and toxins from the skin cells, by causing dead cells to slough off, and by stimulating the flow of blood to the epidermis.

Organic Tea Tree Essential Oil: Tea Tree essential oil has antibacterial, antiseptic, and healing properties. It has been used for everything from treating acne to dandruff.

Before using essential oils, please remember to check my guide on how to use them.

Organic Lavender Floral Water: Lavender Flower Water is the by-product of the steam distillation process used to make essential oils. Lavender water has anti-bacterial properties and is an excellent tonic on skins with blemishes, uneven skin tone or mild acne.

Organic Jojoba oil: A girl’s best friend, jojoba oil is the star of vegetable oils. This oil is unique in that, unlike most other vegetable oils, it closely resembles sebum, so it can act as a natural skin conditioner. Along with great moisturizing properties, jojoba oil can help to control skin oiliness and acne by modulating the sebum production. Plus, it has an anti-inflammatory effect!

Fresh or Organic Lemon Juice: Lemons have antibacterial, antioxidant and purifying properties. Lemon juice applied on the face is great for reducing excess oil and brightening the skin, but should always be used diluted and in small quantities. Do not add lemon juice to the recipe if you have sensitive skin.

Quantities

Fresh or Organic Lemon Juice – 1 tsp. (teaspoon) – not recommended for sensitive skins

Organic Lavender Floral Water – 4 to 6 tsp. (replace with mineral water if you do not have this ingredient)

French Green Clay – 4 tsp.

Organic Jojoba oil – 5 drops

Organic Essential Oil of Tea Tree – 1 drop

Recipe

Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and stir until you obtain a spreadable paste. Do not use a metal utensil or bowl when working with French Green Clay, as metal can affect the clay’s properties.

French Green Clay MaskIf the mask is too liquid, add Green Clay. If it’s too solid, add Lavender Floral Water until you get the consistency right 🙂

How to apply the mask

French Green Clay MaskSimply apply the mask on your face with your fingers, avoiding the eyes area and the mouth. Leave it on the face for 5 to 10 minutes. If the clay gets too dry, spray some floral water on your face. DO NOT LET the clay dry completely as it may absorb too much moisture from your skin and leave your face dry.

To remove the mask, wash your face with warm water and a washcloth.

Always apply a moisturizer after the mask.
